Title: SSF4AE 2012 @ City Amusement
Post by: Genxa on October 28, 2013, 07:13:24 PM
I dropped by CA in Market City tonight and noticed they have 4 new machines for AE.
Price is $1.15, and reloading a higher amount on your card gives bonus dollars etc.
Similar deal with TZ, but sticks and buttons are new and feel fine to me.

FOUR MACHINES

What are the chances of people migrating to CA from TZ?

P.S This is also where the Syd Tekken crew play on Tues and Sats.

Cheers for the heads-up, might check it out. TZ's units are hilarious. (By the way, what is 'CA'? ICSTOUOA.)

There's a decent machine at the arcade next to Hoyts in Broadway also. Catch is that its running Super only though.

Sadly city amusements is a bit too out of the way for myself. Despite this I'd still probably be playing tz.because of the free daily games and the new stay free monday promo.

I'm excited to hear about new machines though!

Thanks for posting about it! No harm in having another option to play!

I just ask that if people do play at City Amusements can we settle on which nights will be CA nights? The same as, from what you said, the nights for Tekken is Tuesday and Saturday etc.

It's just bit of a walk between the two arcades and wouldn't be cool to have half players at Timezone and half at City Amusements.

For me personally I'll play at both. Timezone is still better location plus I get two free credits each day.

Looks like Tuesday and Thursday are the extra dollar days. This add is from April though so it could have changed since then.

I will destroy all at music games.

Tues bonus dollars is why the Tekken crew go there.
Having both SF and Tekken communities together again is a majorly good thing I believe.

Has there ever been KOF in the Sydney arcade scene?

I remembered Chatswood Timezone may have had it once upon a time when I was just a lad.

Both Galaxy and Tz had the first release of Kof13 but it wasn't. Popular at all. Galaxy later got the rerelease but it was already too late..

KOF was a dominant game in arcades up till '02, and after that you would still see 98UM in GW for a while.

Just heard from Ikuya that CA machines have a win limit of....2win streak.
Next I have time would probably be next Tues, so if nobody talks to the staff before then, then I shall do it next week.
Ikuya doesnt know how to explain to staff lol...

Yas (Japanese Ken) and I went to City Amusements tonight to check out the new SSF4 AE machines...

Brand new machines!!

4 Cabinets!

Official arcade move lists!

But wait a minute... Machines are not linking...

Can only vs CPU!

CPU TOO STRONG.

BUT the story continues...

Youssef (Tekken community leader) talked to City Amusement manager (who is the dark skinned guy who was the manager of Timezone who also worked at Galaxy World).

The technician is going to get all the machines linked and it should be ready by end of this week or early next week.

I wasn't aware of the 2 win limit Ikuya experienced so that information still needs to be passed on to the manager.

Overall the cabinets look brand new and the sticks and buttons work flawlessly (Trevor hasn't been there yet!  ;) ), the place is also air conditioned and there wasn't much riff raff off the street so probably a better atmosphere.

And yes Tuesday is actual double dollar night so charge of $20 you get $41 credit.

yep need to explain them unlimited win strek can earn more.
it means if u win to Rob, you need to pay again lol.

other things, cabinet conditions n best of 3 rounds are good.

andd i agree why TZ button n stick conditions are very bad because biginner n Mr.T mash a lot.

Is Trevor really a beginner...?

He's been told quite a few times to ease up on the execution... he really gets into the game though!

I just said beginners and Trevor mash sticks.
he is rare case to be strong but he has skill to find strong points at this game.
such as characters, AA, and DP and reverse 2 choice when he has -2F.

I'd be tempted to go, AE or no AE.

Seriously though, fix the winstreak thing and they're golden.

I raged on their FB page and apparently now settings are changed to:

NO Win Streak Limit
Best of 5 rounds

WHY BO5???
Don't people understand that meter management is a thing?

I will be heading in tonight to check it out to see if things are hooked up etc.

I spoke to the manager last night to solve two problems.
1. Changing it to BO3 rounds.
2. Fixing SC Gauge settings. Currently it is on a lower setting than normal, meaning you gain less meter than supposed to.

He will talk to owner and see when it can be solved.

*A wild Jackuuuuu appeared*

Shout outs to Jack for tagging a long today with me to scope out the place. GGs to Charles, Spencer, Carlton, Trevor and that random Ryu guy.

The set ups are good, the screens are full and vivid. I'm a bit disappointed it wasn't best of 3 like mentioned earlier though. Personally dislike best of five because it harder to play certain characters, skewing the game play somewhat.

Anyways I'll swing by a couple times a week after work.

GG's everyone; Charles, was good to get some games with ya dude, that wake up Ultra was the only thing I could come up with at the time to keep you honest. Playing against Trevor allowed me to get back my ability to anti-air Ultra again, if you eventually hold block long enough, he will jump at you. Ricky, patience/punish and standing MP. Spencer, glad you eventually got a win in hahaha. Jon, Fei... really? not sure if you know, but 2nd rekka on block is punishable. Carlton, gotta say I was relieved to see Sim instead of Fuerte.

Had a good time here only dramas was an asian version of huckle berry Finn and tom Sawyer. They hogged the machine and only played begginer mode which meant they had no challengers. The gamer in me said to school them in arcade etiquette and the basics of sharing but these kids were having so much fun I didn't dare say anything. "Let kids be kids"

The other drama was the machine not accepting my $10 note. I was to embarrassed to go to the counter to recharge because when I came in i asked for $10. The counter chick said for X amount you get an extra $X. With a smug confident face I said "I'm good"....30minutes later with a balance of zilch I looked to the counter and thought now you look like a d*ck for not accepting her offer. Lol.

I haven't been much of a Street Fighter player since I'm mostly a tekken and DoA guy.
But I might as well pick up on this game, since I remember playing SF2 on SNES as a kid...

I have been playing Sf4. But i'm not very technical or deep with the game,
It's still a $1.15 at CA right? Loading $100 (on tues) and get a balance of $250 sounds damn good to me.

I would like to pick up SF4 AE but I heard theres Ultra SF4 coming out someday...
I want to pick up this game and have a change of games.

Though, I'm more inclined to go CA (City Amusements) due to price. But I've seen players at GGtownhall as well =/

Yeah, this is an awkward place to post about. Don't mind me...

If you don't go too in depth into the game, you're not wasting your time - you're playing for fun. When Ultra comes out some of that deep stuff will be useless, namely unblockables, vortexes and some other set ups that revolve around enemy wake up.

For now you can master the true facets such as footsies, execution and mix ups.

There isn't even any guarantee that Ultra will be available in Aussie arcades.

Yeah, what Madenka said.

Play like Alex Valle. Even if you dont go too in depth with matchup knowledge and char specific setups, mastering the basic fighting skills is enough, and the best thing about these fundamentals, is that they tend to carry on to other fighting games that you may choose to play.

Its like sports. You go into a sport, only knowing the basic rules and not the situation specific strategies, but if you have good physical fitness and hand eye coordination, you will pick up the game quickly.

Zoning/footsies, mind games. Those are the "physical fitness" of fighting games. A lot of people bash Valle's outdated tech, but I admire his instinct.

Once you've gotten the basics down, and you choose to continue playing, then THATs when you aim to become a Daigo, another long time player, except this guy combines his years of basics, with todays tech and specific strategies.

GGs to Trevor, Carlton and Saikyo.

Trevor's Yun is actually not half bad now, he's no longer doing trash Genei Jin combos but still relies heavily on 3s target combos. I think the incorporation of the command grab has improved his game greatly. His dive kicks arent scary though cause he isn't converting for max damage.

Not gonna comment about Carlton cause I got lucky... consistently. Honestly I think Gen is very strong against Hawk for the same reasons Chun is. I shouldn't have won a single round.

Saikyobatsujin. I have a bit to say to you so listen up, Dan can't beat Hawk like ever. I don't see Dan ever having the upper hand in the match.

Gouken on the other hand is obviously a great character in the matchup but giving up space too quickly and getting pushed into the corner shifts odds into Hawk's favour. Also you should use U2 when you play against me. I'm bound to jump into a diagonal fireball cause I'm shit/impatient. I believe Denjin can punish Condor Dive too. You had some really great rounds punishing my jump ins and keeping me out and then you had some god awful wtf rounds where you were herded into the corner and kept jumping back out of SPD phobia only to get DP'd for fraaaay. Also don't forget Gouken's flip, I think you used it once.

Hey guys I work at City Amusements, so if you guys want to play SSFIV, u guys can come down to CA, we have 4 cabinets, and if you guys have any suggestions on what u guys would like for the game, just tell me and ill tell my boss. Tuesdays and thursdays we have bonuses, however if you guys become regulars, or if i talk to my boss, we can give you bonuses every time you come, just like we do for the Maximum tune 4 players. We had the Tekken Tag 2 tournament at our store, and if we have enough of the community come to play we might hold our own SSFIV tournament. So if you guys have any suggestions, or when u play at our store the buttons or the setup is not good just tell us and we will fix it to your liking. Just come down and talk to us :) my name is Daniel so if you wanna talk to me about the set up u guys can just contact me on here :)

Thanks for the heads up Daniel, it's very likely that our posse may visit CA more often any time soon, Time Zone has many issues time and time again.

If I may make a technical request, many of us here feel that the Player vs Player games should be Best of 3 rounds. Currently the game is set so that playing the CPU is best of 3, but against players, it's still best of 5. It should be other way around, quicker games result in faster player rotation (good for business) and also affects the strategic aspect of the game. CPU fights should be best of 5, and decreased in difficulty by 1 or 2 notches, so we have more time for challengers to enter. They're currently set to an almost impossible difficulty (CPU reacts perfectly to your button inputs), so we're essentially kicked out before our friends even arrive.

Other than that, the machines are beautiful, and smartly positioned, so we don't get Ultra Combo finished by the air hockey players, like in Timezone.

Hi Daniel.... Could you ask CA business owners to lease the old Galaxy World location? No......ok it was worth a shot. I like ducking out of work to have a quick jam on SSFIV but CA's location is to far for me but I do like CA's set up. Keep up the good work.

My boss is a nice guy, so he doesnt mind doing stuff that makes gamers happy, so yeah, I will jump on that immediately :) hopefully can see u guys there soon

Hey guys I just talked to my boss about ur suggestions, and he is happy to apply those changes, so the difficulty on the ai will be changed, to a lower setting, and the rounds will be changed to best of 3, so if u guys have any other suggestions please dont hesitate to ask :)

Ggs trevor and rig. Rage inducing sets to say the least.

Tonite was my last night for sf. Sadly games have to take back seat to family and I'm afraid i can't play anymore in any capacity. I'm shelving my stuff and probably won't visit these games again until they release Ultra or maybe even never. I knew I would have to quit soon, just wish I could play in a big tourney again or travel Interstate.

Thanks mates. GGs.

I went there Saturday arvo......no one. Made it to Seth on arcade mode twice before my first 6yr old challenger jumped on. I let him win 2 rounds then I won 2....final round he gets me with a random ultra. Would have been alright if there wasn't a huge crowd watching. I slowly get up give him a polite head nod and a smile then the little punk says "in your face!" Ahahaha from now on no mercy for any kids from me anymore.

so that Akuma player sitting next to me...that was you, the famous Gamogo! Good to finally see you in person. I was asking Jon and the others about a strong Akuma player, and they said it might be "Ki-moe-go" and I was wondering what the hell they were saying.

Yeah, try to make them hang themselves, poke their whiffed attacks and AA their jumps, then you won't look too much like a jerk for beating them. The occasional EX tatsu -> DP juggle wouldn't hurt either ;D

Good job on reaching Seth by the way. I'm assuming top of scoreboards are already filled with Chun Li "MKS".

CHECK IT: Spoke to Daniel (lilshow91) yesterday, he told me if more SF players start frequenting, they will be able to treat us to the 'Triple Tuesday' deal every time we come in, the Maximum Tune guys are already getting this treatment. Also want to mention that he is a fellow SF player, the reason for his enthusiasm is he himself wants to improve and he feels like having more people will allow him to do so, through versing different people and talking to the community. To my brothers in arms, please consider this.

GG's Aaron, Ricky, R.I.G, Yas, Carlton. Played like 18 games last night, won 1. Aaron you're the worst type of opponent, I tried so hard to stay mentally composed, got home and smashed a whole tub of ice cream and didn't feel any better.

After losing to CFR, standing next to Norman and he can sense I was pretty torn, after 10 seconds of silence he says "well, errr Blanka's normals are pretty fast and quick..." hahahah.

u need to learn to accept the loss no matter how you lost. Its hard to play well when your angry because you tend to forget about who you're playing and how to play against them and then start doing random shit. Adjust your playstyle for everyone you play and be less predictable (downloadable)

Ahh, yes. CFR playing SFIV.

Indeed. You will never encounter a more wretched manifestation of scum and villainy <3

There's a lot to be learned (and enjoyed) about this game just by watching the reactions of those who play against CFR. Observe as any calm and collected demeanour slips away after two consecutive losses as they then begin to get roped into his game plan. A downward spiral of chaos and frustration ensues. Notice how his smile never wavers. Even a loss is a win for this curious species.

He truly is a bastard. But the best kind of bastard for testing your mettle. If you can withstand his filth, you will be well prepared for all sorts of subsequent cheese, gimmicks, bullshit and trolls.

Learn from the best! All hail CFR's lessons in controlling frustration for they are unparalleled.

Haha, I do recall looking over one time and seeing you trying to contain yourself. I generally would only tend to it when I'm significantly down in health or to break the opponent's momentum. Meeks has questioned my raw ultra punishes many times in the past, I like to think that its simply a combination of buffering and reaction (reaction part is just pressing all 3 buttons), and its easier when you have nothing else occupying your mind except that, which is usually the case when I do it. For the record, I do feel a wee bit scrubby when I do it, I think, hah.

Oh, and how I kept getting hit with the same kunai setup, so bad, like I know some of her setups its just I keep relying on my eyes to gauge which direction to block.

Ibuki is dumb anyway, anything you do to get a win or land an ultra can never be considered scrubby.

GGs Rob, Dave, Vincent, and that Japanese dude that plays Gen/Ken (sorry I don't know the name).

Dave, don't be too disheartened with some of your losses against me. I truly believe that this matchup is majorly in Chun's favour. Your performances against Rob actually showed me more how much you have improved since the last time we played (which was neon's ago).

Rob - still haven't lost your touch. Great as always.

Vincent doesn't posts here, but he is a very solid player with every character he chooses. He has a lot of potential imo.

And the Japanese Gen/Ken player, has a lot of Ikuya about him when he plays Ken, though probably lacks a bit, technically, if you compare the two players. Still a strong player though.

It might be a bit of a break since my wife will be giving birth soon. I'd like to think that I can still make it out there, but I'm under no illusions as to how much work is involved in being a parent (and a new one at that).

Have a good (and safe) Christmas and New Years guys. 2013 was a relatively good year for the arcades!

GG's bro, was nice catching up with ya too. Yeah, its still tough, you have such a strong understanding of spacing/zoning in that matchup, also there were times I got too greedy with those air resets, and you just knew that I would push buttons so just you would EX.SBK upon landing, every time I got hit buy EX.SBK its like "ah fuck, all it takes is some restraint and I could've gotten a big punish if I had just baited/blocked it." Oh but just letting you know, I was still at level 0 yesterday, didn't wanna waste my energy, hahahahah heh heh... *sigh*     yeahhh.

I'm at CA at the moment, going to recheck the set ups and hopefully try out the connection. Afterwards I'll hit Time Zone's pool hall.

Edit: have tested (furthest from the counter). 1 seems ok, 2 is a shocker. Buttons are fine but the stick makes a noticeable clicking noise. Some times quarter circle drops. 3 and 4 are good but are very loud during idle. They're all quite loud when being played as well. Seems as though the button issues are fixed.
Title: Re: SSF4AE 2012 @ City Amusement

"Stick makes a noticeable clicking noise" is an understatement, it's like the gate itself is non existent.

4 lags. It will get stuck in loading a lot, including char select portraits.

1 and 3 seem good. Half circles are a lot easier than in TZ.

Lol alternative life style man!!! I like it when he just cuts in and plays while others are queueing up. The guy that plays really good with hakan asked the TZ staff for a cloth and wiped down the seat and buttons.

Problem is he keeps coming back!!! One of the staff told me he spends around $25 a day at Timezone.  :o

I wish he used that money to buy soap and deodorant instead.   >:(

Damn none of the regulars I know today... did you guys go TZ instead? There was Japanese Ken guy and Viper/Sakura/Gen asian dude. Ooo and there was also Asian sock/sandal guy who had a case of Athlete's foot. Ggs fellows.

I tried to shake the hand of the JP ken guy but I think he was unhappy with the way I played Ryu and he just walked straight on by as he left. It was probably my occasional yolo plays, perhaps a cultural thing or any other reason I guess.

When's the best time for CA/TZ?

GGs Jon, Bromen, BlankaGuile guy. Actually there was also this one Balrog player (who isnt asian) with great footsies and execution. None of his moves seemed dumb, and he was pulling many rush upper links when punish opportunities came. My shitty Ryu didnt stand a chance.

CA has AE machines, right?
At least, you don't have to worry about Vega the glitch-lord;

Haven't played for nearly a year but i had yumcha weeks ago on a Sunday morning(I love chicken feet) and casually popped in as the cabinets are right in the front and slipped in between two gentlemen(not in the Oxford st sense of slipping in between two gentleman) who were already playing and dusted off my rusty Akuma and Oni...didn't do to bad. Finished work early today and popped in to use up the $6 I had from 2 weeks ago...I love this even though its old now.

I was there a few days ago, 2 cabs on Super, 2 cabs on AE2012. All machines connect together and when they do I'm pretty sure it's AE2012. 2nd cab from the left is very slow.
