Tournament Announcements / [Wollongong] Expand Gong - 2-3 April 2016
« on: February 27, 2016, 09:20:06 PM »
Hey everyone, I'm happy to share the news that Wollongong will be hosting its very first large scale FGC event!

Wollongong’s first Major Fighting Game Tournament

The University of Wollongong's Video Game Association (UOW VGA) and the Wollongong Fighting Game Community (Wollongong FGC) are proud to present Wollongong's first major fighting game competition - EXPAND GONG. This is a two-day event that will be held over the weekend of the 2nd / 3rd of April. The venue is in University of Wollongong’s own Building 11 - a spacious and comfortable function area within the university designed to hold gaming events!

For those of you unfamiliar with the campus, here's a useful campus map (there is a convenient car park right next to the building!):

Wollongong lies about halfway between Sydney and Canberra, meaning that the best talent from both of these strong regions can meet and do battle without too much travel. Flights are also relatively cheap from both VIC and QLD.

The following games will be running with featured tournaments:

- Street Fighter V
- Mortal Kombat X
- Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Singles)
- Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Doubles)
- Super Smash Bros. Melee (Singles)
- Super Smash Bros. Melee (Doubles)
- Project M

Venue Fee - $20 (covers entry to both days)
Tournament Entry - $10 per game

The prize pool for each tournament will be comprised of that tournament's entry fees. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will receive 60%, 30% and 10% of the prize pool.

Come April, get ready to EXPAND GONG.

And to keep up with our regular weekly events, feel free to give the Wollongong FGC FB group a follow as well!

Casual Event Announcements / [Wollongong] Monday Night Fights
« on: January 30, 2016, 10:05:50 PM »
Hi everyone!

I help run a series of events at the University of Wollongong for fighting games! At the moment we feature Ultra Street Fighter IV (soon to be Street Fighter V), Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Super Smash Bros Melee, and the slightly less fighting related Nidhogg and Lethal League. There's also a fairly regular anime fighter setup as well, rotating between BlazBlue and Guilty Gear (and lately, Nitroplus Blasters for some reason  ???) We've been going for a bit over a year now and regularly get 30+ people every Monday. With Street Fighter V just around the corner I figured it was time to put the word out to the larger Australian community to get some more people coming down!

Our weekly event runs every Monday night starting at 7:30, usually finishing somewhere between 10:30 and 11:30 depending on numbers. We also run larger weekend events on a quarterly basis, the next one of which is a week away on the 6th of February! Normally we get a fair bit of Sydney competition for the Smash games at these weekend events and I'd love to have stronger Street Fighter/other 2D fighters representation there.

We'd love you to come along and have some games with us!

Thanks all!
