So I'm really bad at making events and updates, especially on a forum I'm pretty sure no-one from Perth actually reads.

We're finally back into tournament season and things have changed quite a bit. This season, we're holding all of our games on the same day, once a month. Payouts will be instant and you will also earn seeding points for future tournaments and bragging rights.
We'll be running Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition (2012), Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and King of Fighters 13. Rules are below

To get the usual stuff out of the way:

Date: Sunday 18/08/2013 11:00am-11:00pm

Location: ECU Mount Lawley... Map to best parking: https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/323482_10151276193906320_1196870548_o.jpg

Rooms 3.111 and 3.112

Standard $2 entry applies to everyone participating in tournaments or casuals. This money goes towards the community fund to be spent on various things to expand the community.
Tournament entry is $5 per game. This money goes towards the cash prize for the winner of each tournament.

Note: For first time comers to our events who have NEVER been to ANY tournaments before, the door fee and entry fee to the tournaments is free. This way you can get a feel for how it operates without feeling like you've wasted money.

Current Schedule:
Blazblue and KoF: 12:00
AE: 2:00pm
(LUNCH BREAK)
Mahvel 4:00

We have plenty of time as we don't need to be out of the room until 11pm. We may place breaks if needed.

Just making a thread here (I have no idea where it truly belongs) as a resource for anyone planning on heading up to SEA Major in Singapore this year. And I guess if anyone wanted to do any organizing and stuff like that.

In terms of who I know is going and booked already, I'm going to be there from the June 20 --> July 5. Baxter, Colin and Tri from QLD are also going around that time too. Choicecutz from Perth is also going to be there, but he's in Singapore primarily for a wedding so he may not be there all weekend/event. There should also be at least two people from Melbourne going (the winners of their AE/UMVC3 season ladders?)

Hopefully we can channel our normally interstate rivalry into making sure we emphasize the Austral in AUSTRALasian, and make sure we at least do better than countries like Burma, Indonesia, Fiji, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, North Korea and Sri Lanka.

So it's coming to February now and the 2013 OHP ladder season is upon us. Instead of making a thread per event, I figured I'd just make a single thread and update it as it goes.

The 2013 Ladder statement has everything you need to know about the ladder system for 2013.

TL;DR: Instead of a single long 6 month season, we're running two 4 month seasons (Feb-May with a Top 8 Playoff in May & July-October with a Top 8 Playoff in December).

The games we are running in the first season of 2013 are:

Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition 2012
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Street Fighter X Tekken 2013
Blazblue: Continuum Shift Extend
The King of Fighters 13

AE and KOF13 will be generally be run on the first Sunday of each month.
UMVC3, SFxT & BB will be run on the third Sunday of each month.
For a list of all the proposed dates for 2013, please refer to the Event Calendar.

If you have further questions, please check the statement first before asking. Most of the answers will be there. If you need any clarification feel free to ask.

Thanks to everyone who came down today. We had something like 36 unique entrants and it ended up being a long, long day. Sorry for some of the hiccups with running over time and with the recording/projector setup.

Congratulations to all the winners (except me for winning Tekken by default), as previously stated, prizes will be distributed to the winners, either at the airport prior to departure, or in Sydney during OHN weekend, otherwise the prize will be passed down to the next highest-ranked player... this may only be a problem for AE since Mikey hasn't confirmed whether or not he's attending OHN.

http://ohn.ozhadou.net/ohn11/

As per previous years, each state is running an OzHadou Regional tournament, where players earn seeding points for the official tournament games at OzHadou Nationals.

This year, OzHadou Perth is running OHR qualifiers on the 20th of January for 4 games: Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition 2012, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, The King of Fighters 13, and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. OHN11 bracket seeding points are up for grabs for each of these games for the Top 3 placers.

Time: 11am - Noon Signups and Casuals. Tournaments start immediately afterward at 12pm.

Food: Food/drink is allowed in the room, as long as you clean up after yourselves and throw away your garbage.
Fees: $10 entry fee for each tournament.

Prize Structure: Top 3 placers will receive OHN11 seeding points. The entirety of the pot for each game will go to the winner of that game for the purposes of subsidizing their flights/accommodation for OHN11 in Sydney*.

*IMPORTANT* This prize money will be given to the winner either at the airport prior to departure to Sydney for OHN11 OR during the weekend of OHN11 in Sydney. If the winner is NOT able to attend OHN11 the prize will be handed down to the next highest ranking player who IS attending OHN.

Just a thought/question for the universal brains trust. I like KOF 13. I actually want to play it more and I'd actually like to build a Perth scene for it and actually get less fraudulent at it. The problem is: no-one plays it. I honestly can't think of any way to actually promote growth. I can imagine it's been a problem for many people in other communities as well... with smaller less popular games like weeaboo fighters or Virtua Fighter 5.

My general question is: "Has anyone had any success in creating interest in more obscure game in their scene, and how did you go about doing it?"

Locally in Perth, we had someone try to promote Blazblue, which was a game they personally liked a lot. They had a $100 minimum 1st place prize guaranteed Blaz tournament a few years back. That arguably failed since no-one new showed up as a result of it, and the only thing that really happened was I decided to try a little harder so I could get dat cash cash money. However, I was already arguably part of that scene already so it wasn't as though they got any new interest out of it.

There just seems to be game-based hurdles in many of less popular games like VF5 and KOF 13. Unlike Marvel (or even Tekken/SC5, which casuals LOVE), they just tend to not be very pick-up-and-play friendly. Where as in Tekken and Marvel (LMHS MMHS. Near universal) awesome shit can happen with minimal effort or button mashing. I remember the first time any of us played MVC3 knowing absolutely nothing and how stupidly Hype everyone got when they accidentally got like double TAC combos through mashing. Alternatively, everyone's played against some guy mashing kicks with Eddy/Lili in Tekken who's done far better than they have any right to.

KOF is just a game you can't pick up and play and do ANYTHING that's not complete garbage by straight up mashing.

I'm kind of just fishing for thoughts, comments and discussions from anyone on the matter.

This weekend, just to add a bit of a spin to our normal weekend of casuals, we're holding 2v2 Teams Tournaments for SSF4AE and UMVC3!

This is a great chance to get more 'tournament conditions' style practice in between the ladders.

If you don't have a pre-arranged partner, come down on the day and we'll play wingman/matchmaker and set you up with other lone wolf entrants.
...
There also may or may not be bonus prizes for most amusing team names.

Location: Murdoch University ECL 4 (Economics, Commerce, Law Lecture Theater 4)
Date: July 22nd
Time: 11am door open, signups and casuals until AE commences at 12:30.

Both tournaments will be run A-cho format*
Money from the tournament pot will be split on the day, 70/20/10 between 1st/2nd/3rd place teams.

SSF4AE2012

Start time: 12:30pm
Format: teams (2v2), a-cho format*, 1 game, double elimination
Other: no character repeats within a team, each person may nominate two characters they are restricted to using for the tournament.

UMVC3

Seeing as there's a DotA 2 thread that seems to have pulled up the fact that a shittonne of us actually play LoL, it made sense to make a LoL thread.

I mean what better way to bring interstate SF communities together than by abusing each other about how shit they are at landing skill shots, or how they ruined your Pentakill by KSing your shit? I guess we could make this a combined playerlist/general discussion and complaining about LoL thread and if people post their username + server they're on, I'll try keep the list updated on this post (until I get lazy).
