Fighters Arena at EB Expo

EB Expo 2013 is about to hit, and like last year, there will be a Fighter's Arena segment to the Esports and competitive gaming schedule.  The Home Grown Gaming section will be under the main building this year, meaning a bigger space directly attached to the Expo, and a bigger prize slate - include cash, prizes and glory.
See last year's information including winner's list here http://forum.ozhadou.net/index.php?topic=7717.0

TOP 4 IN EACH QUALIFIED GAME PER QUALIFIER WILL RECEIVE A HOME GROWN GAMING PASS
PLUS! ENTRY DIRECTLY INTO THE TOP 16 FINALS ON SATURDAY

Last chance qualifiers take place on the Friday of EB Expo. Players with passes will have their names on the list at the EB Expo foyer/entry area. See full list in next post.

Tournament Entry list here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ag49T6UypAPLdEFsMmF1T0hQX0lRTExLajhvSWN1MXc&usp=sharing

How to enter the event if you have qualified: You report to the foyer near the ticket box and let them know your name is on the Home Grown Gaming competitor list.

Tournaments

Super Street Fighter 4
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Injustice: Gods Among Us
Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown
King of Fighters
Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate

(Tekken has not been forgotten; info is the Tekken scene will have their own championship and plan to focus on that)

There will be qualifier events in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane (Adelaide TBC)

Dates / locations

Melbourne -
Shadowlogic, September 7
www.shadowloo.com

Sydney -
Ozhadou York St Battles, September 21
www.ozhadou.net

Brisbane -
Buttonsmash Special, September 28-29
Www.keepetclassy.com

These qualifiers will run some or all of the games, and record all names for top 4 and a backup to top 8 for all six games for top 4 pass-down if they can't attend.

Will allocate entry passes for 24 players (6 games, top 4) per qualifier, but bear in mind - players will need to arrange travel to attend EB expo on their own. Those qualifying players who are unable to attend will be replaced by last chance qualified players at the Expo.

Tournaments at EB EXPO

As per last year, tournaments will be a simple top 16 finals bracket that the above events prequalify for.  The remaining spots will be filled by a simple double elimination tournament run at EB Expo with a player cap of 32 players for each.

Depending on scheduling, the KOF/DOA5U tournaments may be completely open entry but any seeding from qualifiers will be honored.

Tournament Announcements / EB EXPO: Player Profiles - your input wanted!
« on: September 25, 2012, 12:22:44 AM »
Full EB Expo information post here:

We're going to put together some "Baseball card" style player profiles, and it would be fun to get some input from everyone on what they should say.

Take a look at the player list and the template below, and if you have a player you know, or are that player, please add your comments, especially for the Strength, Quote or trivia item! Fun or serious, either is fine.

List of players https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ag49T6UypAPLdFZMSkZxdFJkbVFYNmM0RlM4MHNDZkE#gid=0

Template

Player Name
Nickname
State
Key Game
Tournament credential/highest placing
Strong Point
Trivia/fun fact
Quote

(You don't have to give all fields, just the unique ones, eg I don't need real names/state/game) For example, I'll pick on Ali Exc33sum:

Player Name
Ali Abdo
Nickname
Exc33sum
State
Vic
Key Game
SF4/Marvel
Tournament credential/highest placing
Cofounder of Shadowloo.com
Strong Point
Secret TEC-hniques and sudden raging..demons
Trivia
Top player in Mario Kart and Halo before fighters took over, dangerous driver.
Quote
"Don't worry, I got this."

---
I'd especially love help with some of the NSW/QLD players I don't know so well, and I'll compile the best of those that have multiple, there doesn't have to be one definitive version.

I won't always use a Trivia or a Quote each time, can be one or other.

EB EXPO is right around the corner. It's Australia's biggest gaming event, and this year the organisers have gone direct to the community to organise its competitive gaming section.

You have already heard about the tournament through the Qualifiers and know that big prizes and bragging rights are on the line. This post will maintain all the information you need about this event.

As tournament director for the FIGHTERS ARENA within EB Expo, I'm pleased to invite players, spectators and volunteers to come to the event. All of the community groups that run the existing tournament series that we enjoy are involved in making this OUR event within a much bigger venue with a big audience.
It's an opportunity to give greater exposure to our scene and show a much wider group of gamers what the fighting game community is all about!
Here's the official website listing http://ebexpo.com.au/index.php?page=e-sports

SHOWCASE GAMES
Dead or Alive 5
Tekken Tag Tournament 2

As these games are brand new, they do not have a regular tournament, but we will be running special, prize supported competitions each day.  The format for each will be WINNER STAYS on and the top bracket of players with the LONGEST STREAKS will then compete for a major prize.  These matches will receive an exhibition stage presence alongside the other finals games.
If finalists from BAM and BUTTONSMASH are present at the event for these games, we will look at special seeding or separate Exhibition event.
TBC - there may be a prize each day.

Player Exhibitions

To showcase our top players and to engage the public attending the event, we will ask skilled players to volunteer for special exhibition matches during downtime in their tournaments.
The schedule for this is to be determined, but may include exhibitions between players of different games, against top winner-stays-on players on the casual stations, learn to play showcases, and celebrity matches.
Stay tuned!

PRIZES

Full prize listing is to be determined but will be provided by EB Expo's many major sponsors and will be a high value mix of cash and product.  In short, it is going to be HUGE.

Hi all, take a look at this:
http://www.gamespot.com.au/comps/competition.htm?name=soulcalibur

The Namco rep will be reading the applications to play in the tournament, so just mentioning you were referred by Ozhadou or you're part of the fighting game scene would do you well.

(I reckon it would be good to mention Ozhadou referred you to flag for them the interest)

They expect a lot of people at the event so this is a way to cap the tournament bracket to 128.
