We had a fantastic 31 man tournament at OHNX which motivated me to run this tourney.

I was lucky enough that Gifts for the Geek are adding a $500 pot bonus.
Please show your support by checking out their website here:http://www.giftsforthegeek.com.au/

Due to resource limitations I am going to call this the ST/ST HDR classic mode best of both worlds tourney.

Now listen up, for those of us who are purists (me included) and nothing but CPS2 ST is good enough, there will be one supergun setup with a Japanese CSP2 board available to play on. For those people who are more flexible a second setup will be provided on an Xbox 360 running HDR in classic mode. There are advantages and disadvantages on playing on either system, to list some:

Supergun Disadvantage: Although it’s true ST this setup doesn’t allow the usage of your own sticks. There will be 2 sticks provided and you have to use these sticks, alternatively if you are a pad player you have to use a PS2 pad and one will be provided. There are no buttons assignments, re-mappings etc. This setup is not flexible and comes as is.

Supergun Advantage: You play an arcade perfect version of the game.

HDR 360 Disadvantage: The game is not 100% arcade perfect (Perfect 98%).

HDR 360 Advantage: The advantage to playing on the 360 is you can use your own peripheral controller as long as it’s compatible with the system. You can map buttons to any configuration you like including the 3 punch and 3 kick buttons.

Let’s all be adults about the station, please ask your opponent weather they have a preference on which system they like to play. In the case that we get a split between opponents I’ll talk to both and we can work something out. The top 4 will be played on the supergun exclusively. I am not really happy about the situation but there is nothing that can be done it’s either this or we don’t run the tourney.

Community News / ST (S*it Talk) Episode 1
« on: August 22, 2011, 11:43:31 PM »
Due to popular demand (I can’t believe I am writing this) Ace, KG and myself are back with S*hit Talk Episode 1. On this episode we are joined by Sydney’s very own Goswu and Melbourne’s Loki to talk about a number of different topics. Unlike the pilot we had a shit ton of bad luck recording this episode as everyone’s internet was being shit, it took us almost three and a half hours to record an hour and twenty one minutes of content. The good news is that we shaved off about 40 minutes off the pilot as we did get some complaints that it was a bit too long, the bad news is due to a lot of drops the show is a bit disjointed as people keep dropping from the Skype conversation.

As always there is a severe language warning on this podcast so if you get easily offended, don’t like swearing or in general are in touch with your feelings then this is not the podcast for you and I strongly advise that you don’t listen to it.

So now with any further delay you can download episode 1 here:

Community News / ST (S*it Talk) Pilot Episode
« on: July 21, 2011, 08:41:21 PM »
Hi guys, a little while ago Ace, Kg, Bomb and myself got together and recorded a pilot episode of a new podcast that Ace and myself where planning on doing. The idea of the show was to be something along the lines of IPW’s Can’t patch this and AlphaISM Radio. We were going to do a fortnightly podcast of Ace and myself as the hosts and we would invite people from around the country to join us in some lively discussion on fighting games and other topics that came to mind.

This is a live raw recording, there has been no editing or any audio manipulation hence the sound is not quite up to scratch, the intro and outro songs where done before the recording was done so I just spliced them in. Due to this being a raw recording there is a severe language warning on this podcast so if you get easily offended, don’t like swearing or in general are in touch with your feelings then this is not the podcast for you and I strongly advise that you don’t listen to it.

The pilot is a little bit over 2 hours in length.

So now with any further delay you can download the pilot from here:

Due to OHR being on the same day I am going to cancel Deakin for this month. Sorry folks.
There is a long and convoluted process for changing  the Deakin bookings which have to be done a minimum of 3 weeks in advanced. Anyway we shall see you all next month.

I have been thinking about this for quite a while, we all know that our fighting game tournaments have rules and regulations, also that there are some unspoken rules that people might not be aware of. These rules tend to deviate from tournament to tournament depending on who is running it and how they like to run tournaments. In most industries and professional sports they have a clearly define rules and regulations that are considered  a standard practise when it comes to operating in their field. I guess what I am proposing is that we create a community driven document which would specificity outline and define a standard set of rules and regulations for Australian fighting game tournaments. This document would cover both Software and Hardware rules as well as game rules.

I guess the question is do we have a document like this already and if so where can I find a copy? If not is there any interest in the community to do something like this. This document could be use to point other communities in the right direction if they wanted to run an proper fighting game tournament, for example the ACL tournament that is coming up.

Deakin is going to be on the 23rd/04/ which is the 4th Saturday because I have an weekend Anime event on the 16th. For weeks should be plenty of notice for people also if we could tweak the CCH bookings that would be good as well. As always we are doing Shadowloo Showdown 2011 fundraising so entry will be 5 bucks plus any tournaments you decided to enter. We will be running SSF4 and MvC3 tournaments if we have enough set-ups (4 or more preferable). We are continuing with the Arnie classic screenings this time we are looking at screening Predator, Red Heat and the second Conan movie so get there early :P I would like to get though all the action Arnie movies before we move on to random requests but all requests come under consideration.

We will be running SSF4 and MvC3 tournaments if we have enough setups (4 or more preferable). Also as always we will be screening random movies so if there is something that you wish to see that's crazy or just plain silly fell free to suggest it here and am sure our movie guru Mutton will come up with something.
