Tournament Announcements / [ACT] CFGL BAM6 Qualifiers - 19th April
« on: April 06, 2014, 02:49:21 PM »
Canberra Fighting Game League has been invited to participate in the BATTLE ARENA MELBOURNE 6 Qualifiers seeding points tournament. We welcome anyone who can make the trek down here. ACT has been rather popular for the top Aussie players from Sydney in the past, they have been here many times in the ACT for the OHN Qualifiers, so it would be fantastic to get folks back here again.

It would be awesome to have them here again, attempt to get some seeding points for BAM, probably the last chance to do so as well.

Details
Date: Saturday 19th April, 2014
Time: 10:30am onwards
Location: Good Games store in Lanyon Marketplace, Condor, ACT
Entry Fee: $5

The top 2 placing's (from each game) will receive the seeding points for BAM6.

Games:
Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3
Super Street Fighter 4 2012 Arcade Edition

UMvC3 and SSF4AE2012 are most popular, as for the other titles:

Killer Instinct
The King of Fighters XIII
Super Smash Bros: Brawl, Melee and Project M
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown
Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate
Injustice: Gods Among Us
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike

Subject to numbers, time and equipment availability, if there are enough people who want to play these other titles, please let me know and we get something happening, otherwise we are just going to run UMvC3 and SSF4AE2012.

We will be setting up in the store from 10:30 am.

Please restrict your casual games to best of 3 if anyone is waiting.

Setup's will be Xbox 360 but we will probably have PS3 setups for casuals as well.

BYO Setup/Stick/Controller. Whatever you can bring, that would be great.

Please leave a reply if your interest so we can get an idea of numbers. If you have any questions please reply and I will try to answer them.

Openly voicing this.  Normally I would just keep it to a few people, generally the orgainisers only,  hopefully the rest of the players voice their thoughts as well. First,  Peter means well, it's  for the community, and it's a nice thing, he doing a good thing, though while a good thing, there are things that need to be addressed.

1)  SFXT needs to be counted on the tally, we all worked hard for the results, they need to be there, not happy about them not being there, it's not fair to me, or Steve, or even MamaHK, as I Should be winning in overall points, and was until SFXT results were stripped out of the blue,  can't just not count a game, take points away from folks, points they have earned, it's too late now (you can't just go putting them back now because Vlad had a whinge) it's not fair to Mikey, he deserves to be placed up the top as well. So I am tied with Mikey on the leader board, he has won 2 finals, I've won 10 finals.

So if I can go and win SFF4 and HDR for the rest of the year, probably either come first or second, depending on how Mikey does in the other games, of course it depends on how I go as well, though if things continue in trend as they have been,  just need to win 2 or 3 matches in MVC3 maybe win HDR or SSF4, or a final,  by the end of the year, it's most likely a first placing.

EDIT# below,  forgot to mention that, points are depending on how many participants are entering.

2) The winner of each event is not getting enough recognition in terms of points, this is just an example, if we have 11 people entering the tourney, and Mikey wins the final rather than 12 points, they get 11, this is a problem IMO. Currently as it stands, the runner up is getting 10 points, the winner gets 11 (only one extra point, I think the winner needs a margin of 2 points ahead of the runner up, minimum).

So for example Steve can go on and come first in 10 finals, Beefy can go and win 2 finals, make a stack of semis, maybe runner up here there, yet the ranking is the same for the guy who wins 8 more finals then the guy who has won 2 finals, so you can see how that extra point can make all the difference, it's all depending on how many people enter as well.

Winning a final, everyone knows that is the hardest thing to do, and the biggest achievement, yet one can feel the comfort of basically coasting along the competition, making semi's or doing good, and still has the comfort in knowing he will either come first, second, or third in the rankings, it might be ideal for the lesser skilled players, but it doesn't work for for me, probably does not work for Steve either, coming first or second does not matter, which in fact it really should matter. If I have to quit playing in this league in order for things to improve so be it! I don't mind not playing, as long it's fair for the winners, if people have a problem with me and the way I play, please address it with me,  one would expect more maturity from people as well.

On a personal note, this is what has effected me the most.  We lost 2-3 of Canberra best players since SFXT was taken off the scene, skill can't see a valid reason why it was shafted, the best players all played this game, and played it well, the majority of the ACT scene IMO. MakaHK (IMO one of the  the best players I've come across) anyone who has played him, know he's a complete player, and plays with such ease, skill, and his execution is the finest you'll see, we can all learn from him, losing him was a big blow to our scene. Where is Marty our first host for at least 1 year or more, another huge blow, I know Kirill has left, he was our other main host for about 1 year, we would go to his house, he would provide food, drinks, he was the perfect host, biggest loss of them all, I haven't seen him for a year, it's not good, so apparently  he's coming back because SFXT is casuals tomorrow.

There are a lot of experienced tournaments orgainisers here that frequent this forum, I'd be interested to hear their thoughts :)

Pr-orders are now opened at the official Capcom store for about $150, but there is a catch... they do not ship games to Australia. So I checked on Ebay, they have 2 of these sets going for about $400 (buy it now).

Amazon have links but they are not open to pre-orders yet. Does anyone know where we can purchase this set for a reasonable price, say... for what it's worse ($150)

This is another topic, not related to the ST event at OHN. After speaking a little bit about the ST competition in Sydney with some of the guys in Sydney, we were thinking about running more ST and HDR event's during the year. Currently for set ups I have a Dreamcast with an official copy of the ST game and I have just purchased another official copy of the game today, so pretty soon that wil be 2.

Though I don't have a joysticks setup for it just yet, but I will have a chat with Kyokugen and see what my options are for getting some HORI sticks converted for the Dreamcast. Obviously running HDR is easy, Xbox or PS3. And I believe Kyo has DC as well. For the ST events, I would like to keep these on a Dreamcast console.

The ACT has a decent ST & HDR community, there are some pretty good players from here, and with regular event's I'm sure we can get a strong showing as there is interest here,, also there are good ST players from NSW, QLD, VIC, and all other parts of the country, I think there are a lot of players that deserve a chance to be noticed in this timeless classic, and I will push for it to happen! We are going to bring ST and HDR back into the Australian Community. And hopefully with some luck! make these event's bigger at the nationals! we had our chances in the past, we didn't take them, I think it's time we do.

EGM interviewed Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono, and mostly just discussed Poison’s gender. There is a small mention of Capcom vs SNK 3 at the end.

Thanks guys. Qanba have requested who and how many folks here have not received their items.

I will go through the other threads and see who has posted there, but if you can just let me know via this thread and I will get back to Qanba.

Hi all,

I had discussion with a mate here in Canberra (Beefy), he advised to me to contact Qanba directly about the issue we are having with Philip Truong aka Kay Noc.

I called the head office in Shenzhen China, spoke to one of the guys there, I don't speak Chinese so I sent them an email instead advising them of the scenario. In these cases, if Kay Noc is a seller of their product, they will need to know what has been happening, they will chase this up, as it will be in their best interest. Also! could somebody who speaks Chinese maybe give them a call? I only know how to say "thank you" in Cantonese.

Thanks

Recently I saw a couple HRAP sticks being played on a dreamcast. How can I go about in buying 2 sticks like that?.

So, something that converts a PS3/Xbox 360 stick into a Dreamcast port (to play on the Dreamcast).

I'll pay for the services and parts.
