Thanks for this Alex: as somebody with sausage fingers, I don't think I have the execution required to play KOF but I appreciate that someone has taken the time to compile such a thorough resource.

Thanks for that Chill; I was incorrect re: fuzzy guard.

I really love this game but I feel I've hit a wall in terms of improvement.

Playing around with Taka, I now realise why people classify him an advanced character. I believe that his toolset is limited yet very high damage.
A key aspect of many characters, fuzzy guard, is also stuffed with Taka: he can only fuzzy guard up to -4 because his crouch dash is 6 frames.
Playing Taka requires solid fundamentals and a real understanding of the opponent's play style. My fundamentals are quite poor so I'm having trouble with the character.

I'm also experimenting with Pai. Pai's strength is in closing distance and constant poking pressure and I believe this could work for me, although her overall damage output is not high.
Her stances are also interesting and varied while not being too intense.
Her in and out style is causing me problems because I like to get in that ass and stay in there!!

This post wouldn't be complete without an interesting link and here it is:

Here you are

If your opponent tech rolls, there is a time (iirc a 5 frame window) where you can hit them and they can't do anything (meaning the only possible scenarios are guard or eat a hit). Every character in the game is covered in that video.

MadeMan you sneaky little fucker you've been doing this to me with Goh!!!

In general playing new characters is quite frustrating as I often believe I could have punished using my main. But it's forcing me to learn different aspects of the game which can only be beneficial in the long run.

Melbourne watch out; we're out to prove you're a one man state!!!

Also of note: A comprehensive guide to the frame data of your moves! On guard, on CH, on normal hit - the works!

Myke was telling me a while ago he was doing a site update and it really shows. Well done VFDC team.

After some discussion (thanks MM), I will be picking up a non-Lion character in Taka.
I'm definitely invested in this game: going 1 - 2 has made me more hungry and I can't wait until next YSB. I hope we don't take more than a month!

Just booked my entry and also my place in the VF tournament. Now the practice must begin!

That looks pretty cool actually. I'm down to go and play there; it's not far from me.

EDIT: I'm sorry about not being active. I've been a little busier than usual recently. I've got a list of venues in the Canterbury-Bankstown area, and I'm going through them very slowly calling and asking for venue prices.

I just checked my calendar dates and I'm down for this. Can bring:

1 x Stick
1 x Xbox 360
Games: UMvC3, KOFXIII, VF5: FS, SSF2: HDR, SF3: 3SOE
ASUS VH24 bla bla

I am a UNSW student (for the very near future), so I made inquiries about booking a room there. I had a room in mind too.

Because pretty much nobody here is a UNSW student, we have to pay for the room. From the email I received from the room booking department at the Uni:

"The second option is to pay for the rooms. This would work out to be around $180.00- $220.00 (depending on whether you would like IT facilities) with additional hourly rate after this ($50-$60 p/h)."

This is decently cheap. It's not the best, but it can work. I'm leaving this up here.

Let's do some mathematics:
Assuming that the minimum participation we get is 15 people (worst case scenario).
Assuming that we want a full 12 hours (we have to book for 13 to give us prep time).
Assuming max hourly rate and max initial cost (not likely, but we roll with it).

So: 220 + 60(13) = 1000 dollars straight up.

Cost/Participants = 1000/15 = $66.65

So fuck that, right? No way I am paying that much to play some goddamn video games in a room!

How many people do we need to make this viable?

1000/x = 15 ---> x = 67 people...

I don't think that's possible; what do you think?

No word from Bankstown Arts Centre...have a list of venues from Canterbury Council. Will start going to work on those soon.
We need to play more!

Are these sticks any good, MM? How do they stack up to, say, the SC5 Hori sticks?
They are a cheaper alternative, definitely not as heavy or solid as a SC5 Hori, but it's not necessarily a bad thing depending on how you play. I find it a really nice compact stick for meets, easily modded and pretty decent out of the box.

I actually posted an uncomfortably long 'review' in the old stick thread XD

I would want to get another one for PS3, but is there any reason why the 360 version is so much cheaper? Usually it's the other way around D:

What sort of thing would you do to mod it? Like different buttons or a different stick or...?

Yep. It's in this open park place. Address is 5 Olympic Drive. Check it out on Google Maps.

Going down to BAM is a bit of a pipe dream at this point (in my opinion, of course)...the game's only been out for a few months. It will be interesting to see if the game keeps steady until next year. If by then we are all still playing it would be great fun (although I certainly won't be on the team).

$15 dollars is an absolute max...I was thinking it might be a bit much to ask people to part with $15 twice a month. I know some people can and will pay; but success is the key!

Yeah. This place is big: we could easily fit a YSB sized event in here if they can get us tables and chairs. I was hoping to make it like the second YSB...on the second or third Saturday of each month. This would only work depending on the cost, though: if we can do it such that we all pay less than $10 each, then it can work.

So to answer your question: I hope so!
