Tech Talk / Re: Is a Sega Saturn worth buying?
« on: February 21, 2014, 03:41:14 PM »
Bad loading times are really only a problem with the SNK fighters (aside from KOF 95 due to it being a cart/CD combo game).  The earlier Capcom fighting games don't load any worse than SFIV on PS3.
I wouldn't bother getting any Saturn arcade sticks as none of them are any good without modding - a better route to go is to mod a Xbox 360 stick with a MC Cthulhu.  Even the giant HSS-0130 Astro City control panel lookalike comes with generic stock buttons and needs modding.

People need to stop their torrents when playing online too.  While they may have the overall bandwidth to download and play online at the same time, latency is going to be significantly affected.

For anyone with iiNet, change your connection speed profile to 'Gamer'.  While your upload and download sync speeds may drop, this is not important as your latency will improve on this profile.  You can change it back to whatever profile when you're done playing - it takes about 10-15 minutes for the change to take effect.

If you want to get really crazy there's B15 in the UK.

Order from the HORI USA Store, then use a mail forwarding company to send it here.

Is there parking nearby?

Tech Talk / Re: New Modem suggestions
« on: March 07, 2012, 03:08:41 AM »
Ideally you would want to get a megabit modem router and get a gigabit switch. You would only experience the faster speeds on LAN, not WAN and it's the cheaper solution. Another plus is it would be cheaper to replace if something goes wrong.

In that setup your modem/router is still routing all the data at 100Mbps, bottlenecking the gigabit switch.

I had been bringing my DC to Perth meets for a good little while to drum up interest in ST, but aside from one impromptu tourney we held at a MvC3 event, there is very little interest from those new to SF2.

Probably better to just buy an Aussie 360 power supply brick.  A step-down transformer that'll deal with the wattage a 360 chews up is going to put out a lot of heat.

A lot of people seem to baulk at paying money for a Xbox Live Gold subscription, but really it's less than $1 a week.  Given XBL's superiority over PSN, $1 isn't much at all.

Have you tried the USB Saturn pads?  Those D-pads kick arse.

Curious as to why you did the mod - what's wrong with the stock D-pad on the Hori Commander?

I do mods in Perth.  So does Valkyran.
