I'll probably come in the afternoon.

Lol I'd rather be part of ABM than take that challenge even at 2 to 1 odds.

I'm still amazed at what the Australian community can achieve given it's size and logistic difficulties, and this greatly run OHN most definitely did not disappoint. Thanks to all the organisers for putting together the awesome event.

Shoutouts to the QLD Marvel players, like Ace and KG already mentioned, you guys straight up outclassed us at the game. You could really see the difference in skill and game knowledge when it came down to it. Sad that we didn't get much chance to get games in, but ggs to everyone I played nonetheless, Tyrone especially. No salt from me man it was obvious you were way better.

Don't think I'll be headed to SS, going back to Singapore to see what the scene is like there. All the best to those that are - make sure you let those Japs know that they can't touch Marvel. And tell Tokido his team is shit lol.

I guess I can understand GGS's point of view as a business better now thanks to Ziggy's clarification, but I do hope some sort of understanding can still be reached. I expect that OHN is currently the event taking up heaps of everyone's time, so maybe once that's done with a better arrangement can be made?

To be honest I feel far closer to the Sydney community than my own Singaporean community back home, and that's purely because of the welcome I received on the forums and at my first Wednesday night casuals in Feb last year. And I've always felt that the reason the Sydney community seemed much friendlier and more open than the community back home was because of a venue like GGS, a place where everyone could gather and play the game on consoles without having to worry about dropping coins, and discussing strats when others were playing.

In Singapore it always seemed like the direct opposite. Because of the size of the country and the HIGH availability of arcades, our scene back there was always extremely arcade-centric. We thrived during Vanilla because the best players would be at the arcades around the island DAILY, doing well enough to send a team to SBO. But when SSF4 came out even a cracked cabinet at the arcade wasn't enough to attract crowds, people in Singapore were still more interested in Vanilla than Super as well. Support for and from the community dwindled pretty badly at the time, people were still organising Vanilla tournaments 3-4 months after the release of Super as well. I've heard recently because of AE and now that they're organising a Wednesday Night Fights-ish sorta thing for Marvel too, things have been picking up but I'll try to find out more from them in July when I head back.

The biggest problem however with being arcade-centric isn't with regards to the 'most popular game' at the time. Maybe it's slightly different from Galaxy World here, but in Singapore arcades are dark, noisy and the video game corner always looks overpopulated by gangsters who could beat you up as easily in the real world as in the virtual one. Even though the core community always grew stronger, you can imagine how hard it'd be for a newcomer to try and break into the scene. I remember when I was 16 and playing MvC2 on my own, after winning a few games I was approached by said 'gangsters'. I honestly thought I was going to get stabbed there and then. But that was also my first introduction into Singapore's Marvel community. I think I was one of the lucky ones though, because they have a habit of mocking other regulars at the arcade that play like scrubs.

I guess what you guys can take away from Singapore's example is if nothing else, that gathering at an arcade isn't exactly the best way to build a community. Perhaps the situation and culture may be diferent here, but I honestly believe that having a venue like GGS is far more condusive to community building. Like I said earlier I feel a bigger part of this community here than the one back home, and I'm also far more willing to put in the effort to build things up here. I'm studying full-time like Alex as well, but I'll see what I can do. Henry's right though, support is the most important thing the community needs. The first signs are when people stop coming to major events because of personal feuds or the like, instead of other commitments.

Disclaimer: I know I've said quite abit about the Singaporean scene, but try not to judge them too quickly either. Firstly because I don't know most of them personally, but these are just my thoughts on the overall scheme of things there. Secondly because some of you have met Raymus (Shen Yuan) at BAM last year, and other Singaporeans at other events, so though I might be giving a slightly slanted view, it's nonetheless relevant.

I used to go down every Wed for Will's Casual event for SF4/SSF4 last year. The turnout was always pretty decent even though we couldn't stay til late (think we had to leave at 10 or something). If Friday is a problem because of space constraints then I for one don't mind going down on Wednesday instead.

... Actually I'm just sick of playing KG all the time.

i dont even have that shit at home
whats good

That's bullshit as well lol. You play this game 3 times a week which is almost as much as I do.

And it's not like you're gonna go to training mode and practise MMHS every day.

Yea I'll be there for both.

Marvel. Please.

And I'll play AE as well with the sole intention of landing 3 oichios in a row again.

I should be down then.

I'd really like to come down for Marvel casuals. Probably won't stay late so there's no need to keep it open til 2am. Is anyone interested in Marvel at all? It'd be kinda painful to head down if nobody's playing.

Hulk Smash

I'll play Marvel. Will probably join the AE tournament too just for kicks.

Lol yang for old time's sake I will play MvC2 with you.

Marvel baby
