Ok, I gotta ask - $15?

Melbourne has regular tournaments at $5 per player. Sydney's are $15. How come? Melbourne GC entrants are issued with a 30 minute game card on entering which I figure translates to a good chunk of games afterwards even if you get your ass kicked - all for just $5.

I'm of the view AE tournaments here might be a little more attractive to players if we reflected the going rates elsewhere and charged $5. I can understand why people might look at that $15 price tag and instead see it being better spent dropped into some regular paid AE games later on which are only $1 a throw at GGs.

I'm not trying to take a piss on the organisers, merely trying to understand why the significant pricing difference factors in. Comparatively speaking, we're paying more for less though it entirely possible there's something I'm missing here that isn't being pointed out.

Thoughts?

I think it's $10 for rent to Good Games and $5 dollars for the winners prize money. I could be wrong though.

Personally speaking I'll probably have to quit Friday tournaments till I find more work, $15 has become too expensive every week.

I know alot of people that wont go to GGs Friday because they dont want to pay $15 to get their ass handed to them, besides, theres 6 cabs meaning you prob wont get 15 goes in 1 night if theres a decent turn out? Now im not a regular so I cant say for sure since ive only been to 1 wed casual.

Id pay $15 to get raped (but thats maybe before i like it?) but i still havent been able to find a full time job and my part time job requires me to work weekends :(

I think if there was a price drop, more new comers would come or even run a level up thursday or something just as an example where D to C+ players can duke it out.

But hey what do i know

I know what you mean, we should always join with the intention of winning, but realistically speaking sometimes its almost impossible. Its like versing Tiger Woods in a game of golf or Michael Jordan in a 1v1 bball match.

Your winning chances are so small its close to zero. I prefer playing against better players but im speaking about the general community, although if it was cheaper and more new comers go to GGs, they wont have enough space anyway.

I see your point, but anyone who enters a competition/tournament must feel deep down that they have a glimmer of hope of beating top players. I'm sure low seed tennis players know they are up against the wall when they come up against top players like Federer and Nadal, but there are two ways of looking at it. One, I will absolutely give it my best and possibly cause an upset. Two, I get completely obliterated but at least I'll learn something and take something away from the game. I know it's a bit of a stretch comparing fighting games to professional sports. In any case, those players are getting sponsored to enter in those tournaments, so they don't really have much to lose whereas the $15 to enter this tournament is a little steep and out of your own pocket, so I totally understand the apprehension. I don't even know what my point is anymore lol

I guess it's a 2-point argument so what I'm trying to say in short is ... if you enter a tournament, have some belief and take away everything you can from top players, win or lose. You might even surprise yourself. Secondly, I agree ... $15 is pretty hefty considering the blokes in our neighbour state only have to fork out 3 times lower than what we have to, and as Gamogo pointed out, actually have incentives to go to tournaments.
