KOF XIII Discussion and Media Thread
« on: July 14, 2012, 11:07:43 AM »
Hi all,

I know a bunch of us in the KOF XIII contacts thread like to post match videos and combo videos and things like that to show each other from time to time, so I thought a dedicated thread to this kind of thing would be the way to go so we can keep the contact thread about contacts. :)

Since we're a fairly tightly knit group of players, I figure the more we post informative and interesting videos, as well as just talk about the game itself, the more it'll help us develop as players. Since, you know, it's not like we all get to actually PLAY the game that often unfortunately.

Hope you guys are keen for some KOF talk!

I'll kick things off with this combo vid from Combonauts:

You guys have probably seen this but I'll post it anyway.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJcoUuKQ-Kg

It's the first part of the Team Korea vs Team Mexico.

Main reason I posted though, is I wanted to know if any of you know how the hell the Koreans are landing an uppercut with EX Iori after the first two hits of the Rekkas. Is it a 1F link or something? Because it feels almost impossible to do for me.

The technique is to cancel to 2nd rekka into a super, but past the super cancel timing. If done correctly, it will shorten the recovery of the 2nd rekka, allowing for additional followups such as st.C, dp+C etc.

Seems to be only on hit, because on block, the 3rd rekka just comes out.

Zerp has recently tweeted top players' opinions of who is strong or weak in King of Fighters XIII, listed by players on his twitter including his own opinion back at 13th of July.

I am also going to bold and underline Karate mentions on the list for lols.
Note that Tengu = Karate.

Quote from: Zerp
First off! My list! Strong: Karate, Shen, Hwa, and Beni (he can fight everybody). Weak: Mai, Terry, Maxima

Quote from: Yang Cao Ren
Taiwan's Ryo_Ren list. Strong: Tengu, Ex Iori, Shen, Beni, Kyo, Kim. Weak: Mai, Leona, Terry, Athena-she is only strong if the player is too
https://twitter.com/Zerpin/status/223642800384774144

Quote from: Kaoru
Jpn's Kaoru. Strong: Karate, Ryo?, Daimon. Weak: Elizabeth, Mature. I didn't get a chance to watch Kaoru's Ryo at all this weekend...

Quote from: Kyabetsu
Japan's Kyabetsu. Strong: Karate, Karate, and Karate. Weak: Elizabeth and Kula
https://twitter.com/Zerpin/status/223643307706822656

Quote from: Dakou
China's Dakou. Strong: Tengu, Shen, Kim. Weak: Dakou's only training partner is XiaoHai and they cannot determine who is weak yet
https://twitter.com/Zerpin/status/223643570945536001

Quote from: Xiao Hai
China's XiaoHai: Kim, Duo, Chin (if you don't understand the matchup). ... This list seems very influenced by EVO results.

Also, XiaoHai believes that Karate is only upper mid. Both of them believe that this game is more about matchups and gimmicks

Execution/patience for learning links etc seems to be my biggest weakness for KOF. Who would you say are good options for low-execution characters? I spoke to Kyokugen about this at the last YSB, he said Maxima was a good choice (who I'm happy with) and maybe Kula. I'm currently running with Max, King, Billy, basically I want to replace King since I feel I'm not using her to the best potential (mainly using her as a zoning character atm).

Regular Kyo is low execution (IMO anyway) and has ridiculous damage output. I would give him a go and ruin people's day with jump d.c

Has anybody been able to consistently hit the DP~DP plink shortcut? For example, apparently if you do DP+C~D with Yuri (DP drive cancel to demon flip) that should come out with only the single DP input. I can only get it when i mash so i have no idea in regards to the timing.

Romance was so lucky in the 1st match. Taking notes about Kaoru's Daimon. :D

Yea the single input plink dp has an odd timing to it, I got in around 1 in 3 when I tried it a while back. I find just doing dp+C into dp+D is easier.
