"Proper" button layout?
« on: October 29, 2012, 09:53:56 PM »
I'm wondering if there is any proper button layout for umvc3.
at the moment my buttons are as follows (top row = top row of buttons, bottom row = bottom row of buttons)

(L) (M) (H) (LMH)
(S) (a1) (a2) (a1+2)

is this the correct set-up for the buttons or have i got it wrong?
thanks

Marvel is a game of personal preference

L H A1 (Fraud Button)
M S A2 (Fraud Button)

Is what I use

With the ability to button change and stuff like that, it's purely up to personal preference and what you're used to. With a game like Marvel it's not like Street Fighter or Tekken where you've got an arcade scene where the cabinets have a hardmapped and common button layout.

Theres 2 main control methods:

The TvC layout:

A  B  C  (fraud button)
S A1 A2 (fraud button)

MvC2 layout:

A  C  A1  (fraud button)
B  S A2   (fraud button)

I use MvC2 layout, as did a lot of QLD players, but a few have switched to TvC layout due to the better layout for chars like magneto where tri dash instant overhead A is effective. But as YOLO said, its purely personal preference. As demonstrated by godly's layout, haha  ;D

My layout:

A  C  A1  (B + C)
B  S  A2   (A + C)

the extra buttons are for dashes, depending on what move I lead in with, if hitting with A, then dash with B + C, if hitting with B use A + C dash

I like your style.

Also just for a quick reference if you're playing zero, viper or vergil it's easier to play tvc style

L  M   H
S  A1 A2

since you have to hold a button to charge at points. 2 button dashing can be a little odd if you play mvc2 style layout but it's doable.

L M A1
S H A2
is useful if you like sliding your fingers for magneto combos like his rom.
