[TAS] QCF Tas meets thread +Tasmania catch all thread
« on: April 08, 2013, 05:39:31 PM »
You thought Tassie didn't have a fighting game community!

Well... we kind of don't really. But what we do have is growing. Currently I'm hosting weekly meet ups at my place, and if we grow much larger we may need to consider a new venue which is quite exciting!

Currently we meet almost every week, alternating Wednesdays and Thursdays. Entry is free although it's appreciated if you could bring something to share or a gold coin donation to go a short way towards building a fund to do bigger and better things.

So, if you are interested, want to know more etc, feel free to message me and I'll give you some hard addresses and such.

You can find us on www.facebook.com/qcftas to keep up to date with the latest things.

Here is the plan for what's coming up in Tassie. Sorry about the TBC's, they should be as they say, but I'm worried about confirming things too early.

I feel bad triple posting. But don't worry, we have about 5-12 regulars now. And for when those few Tasmanians crop up here, I'm sure they'll appreciate this.

These meets are semi regular meet ups for players in Hobart interested in fighting games to meet up and have some great matches. Although not taken TOO seriously so don't worry if you are still learning. We often focus on playing Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and just recently Persona 4 Arena has taken off, and Skullgirls is looking to take off too.

However we are also known to play:

Melty Blood
Soul Calibur V
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
King Of Fighters XIII
Aqua Pazza
Guilty Gear AC+
DarkStalkers Resurrection

Sometimes, we also delve into board games, most often a game called Puzzle Strike, which you can play online at www.fantasystrike.com aswell.

So if any of that interests you, grab your arcade stick, and wander down. If you could help out by providing food to share, drinks (non alcoholic) or providing a small donation that would be excellent! Rowan usually tries to provide a healthy food option of pumpkin soup for people.

If you haven't been before, just message QCF Tas on Facebook, or PM link6616 here

Hi there,

I'm in Hobart looking to get some Tekken in. Is this possible? Are there still meets happening?

Additionally, is there any other info about stuff going on, tournaments, anything like that?

Yes the meets are still going... Although we've had a minor dwindling in the fighting gamers rocking up sadly, so we've shrunk a touch and our tekken scene is so absent that the most recent tekken game that gets run is Tekken 6. (by virtue of only one person owning TTT2, and them not bringing a relevant set up mostly)

So, I'm going to have to apologise that we really can't offer you much in the way of Tekken matches in particular. Although, I am usually fairly optimistic for a "if you build it they will come"

Tournaments, we have tried running them in conjunction with LANs, and only had rather poor turn outs. The only tournaments we've run that got any level of turn out are at the Anime Island Convention. However I'm not helping with the organization of tournaments there this year so I cannot say for sure how much of a fighting game presence there will/won't be there. We are at this really awkward size where we cannot really afford to expand because we have too few people, but cannot find new people probably because we aren't expanding.

I'm not trying to sound like a naysayer of doom and gloom, I'm just trying to ensure expectations aren't too high. I'd love it if you could attend though, they run alternating Wednesdays and Thursdays, the upcoming one is on this thursday, you can find some more details here https://www.facebook.com/events/610389412331130/

I will try and rally up the one other more major tekken player. Although if you'd like to play a recent tekken, I'd request you bring the relevant set up if at all possible.

I admit right now you sent this message as I'm plotting out the logistics of a smaller tournament which will hopefully come to fruition although I can't promise anything.

Hello

Fight Nights are continuing down here in Tasmania, although the regular schedule has shifted to Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Also in exciting news we should be running a tournament later this year, small scale given our population but it's still something!

Upcoming fight night dates though

April, 8, 16, 22, 30
May  6, 14, 20, 28

Currently these events are still held on in my own house, however, we have seen some nice growth recently and can still handle the amount of attendees. If the upcoming tournament goes well and the venue is happy with us, we may be going more consistent with an external venue.

Please feel free to contact me for more information, and of course you can find the main facebook page here to keep updated with all the events.
