[SYD] YSB #31 - 2nd May
« on: April 23, 2015, 10:30:48 AM »

Hi everyone,

Are you excited for some Mortal Kombat X? We've got some cool stuff this month to celebrate its release. Thanks to Warner Bros. Australia, all entrants in the Mortal Kombat X tournament this month will receive a free t-shirt and poster, with plenty of other great prizes up for grabs throughout the day!

Additionally, placing top 3 in tournaments this month will grant you seeding points for BAM 7 next month so if you're planning on competing in Melbourne later in May be sure to come down.

As usual, we'll be offering an entry fee refund to a lucky person who signs up here. For OzHadou forum members, all you need to do is click "Sign Up". If you are browsing as a guest at the moment, we recommend you to sign in with your OzHadou forum account if possible. Otherwise, simply type your game handle and the game you play in the comments section. Suspicious guest sign-ups will be ignored in the draw.

Details
Date: Saturday, 2nd May 2015
Time: 11:30AM - 10:30PM
Location: IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to a booking clash, for this YSB and this only, we will be located in the Bass Suite on Level 2 of 99 York. Please ask reception if you are not sure how to reach the Bass Suite. Thanks!
Entry Fee: $15

The doors will open at 11.30am so we can start setting up. If bringing setups, it is recommended to arrive at this time so we can help coordinate the space and power requirements for the setups on the day. Also, if you plan on parking downstairs you will have more chance of getting a spot if you're early.

Players are free to move about any game and any setup for casual games, though in the interest of fairness and ensuring everyone gets games in, please restrict casual matches to the best of three games if anyone else is waiting to play. Winner stays on. Please be considerate of others and ask if any onlookers whether they would like to play games.

While OzHadou and other communities are providing gear throughout the day, DIY setups are welcome for all games, listed or otherwise; the more setups, the more games for everyone on the day!

What is YSB?
YSB stands for York Street Battles - Sydney’s monthly gathering for all fighting games, which is supported for the players by the players. It is held at the central venue of 99 on York St in Sydney’s CBD.

Casual play, exhibitions and tournaments are all welcomed and encouraged on the day on a multitude of OzHadou and DIY set up games. Tournaments are optional, and will be run if there are sufficient numbers/interest on the day, with casual play taking up the majority of the event.

All players, communities and games are welcome - if there is a game which is not listed for DIY, please feel free to come and bring a setup - YSB is the ideal place to get people playing and interested!

BYOC - Bring Your Own Controller
Spoiler for BYOC:
Worthy to note that setups provided by Ozhadou for casual and tournament play will not have controllers (sticks/pads) provided by Ozhadou. If playing on these setups, it is expected to bring your own controller (arcade stick or pad).

This also applies to DIY games.

While there may be arcade sticks and/or pads being unused on the day by other players, and borrowing with permission or prior arrangement while permitted, is not advised due to potential availability issues - for example, you may be playing a tournament match against each other or at the same time. It is therefore highly recommended to bring your own controller regardless; do not assume there will be any spare on the day. The good news is most sticks and pads can easily fit and be in a small backpack to the venue on most forms of transport.

Registration
Signups will be taken at the front of the Red Room by the YSB organisers - David (kyokugen), Henry (Genxa), Jonathan (Jarop), Will (azuzu) or Youssef (FaYd). Please stop by at the front desk before moving onto playing casual/tournament games.

We will be collecting registration on the day at the front until 2pm. If arriving after 2pm, please locate a YSB organiser to register. Please make it a note to locate and register as soon as you arrive at the venue, and to have correct change to make the process as smooth as possible. We will be checking registered players throughout the day.

In addition to entry fees, tournament fees will be collected for games running on OzHadou equipment, i.e. SSF4:AE2012. Any other tournaments will be arranged by their respective communities.

More tournaments will be announced closer to the event so be sure to check back in the coming days

Tournament attendance is optional and will be run if there is sufficient numbers and interest on the day. Signups will be taken 30 minutes before tournaments start. Please locate a YSB staff member to register. Please note that SSF2X will not be run on supergun hardware for this YSB.

Tournament fees for USFIV and MKX is $5. Tournament fees for DIY games is dependant on the organiser's decision of the respective DIY tournament. Games with free tournament entry are noted above.

How to Get There
Directions to the venue can be found on this link below:
http://www.99onyork.com.au/how-to-get-here

If catching public transport, get off at Town Hall Station or the Queen Victoria Building (QVB). When you arrive at 99 on York, head through the automatic doors on the right, which lead into the club, then walk up the stairs to level 1 and turn left.

Parking
Spoiler for Parking:
All-day parking up til midnight is available at the venue for $15. A $5 discount may be attained with a 99onYork membership, which costs $10 a year (ask the front desk). Simply present the card to the staff at the car park office before using the payment machine to receive the discount.

Please note, as this is a valet service, keys to vehicles must be handed to the 99onYork staff while the car is parked in the car park. Due to this system at the venue, the car park may take some time to get into, or appear closed for periods. As mentioned previously, arriving early is recommended to minimise hassle.

Alternatives to this car park are as follows:
Cinema Centre Car Park (Centro Parking): accessible 24/7 from 521-527 Kent St and 306-318 Sussex St. $10 on Saturday if you enter before 5pm.

Wilson Car Parks: (Darling Quarter is $13 for the whole day)

Just a heads up
Guys it is likely MKX is going to be run at 2pm.
So please turn up on time so we don't need to push the tournament back.
With the number of new people, its likely this tournament may run longer than normal.

Anyways hope to see you all there.

Unfortunately, we do not have any converters so you won't be able to use your Xbox 360 controller but you can definitely borrow someone's PS4 controller for the tournament.

Bring the pad anyway - I have something that seems to work fine, but no promises lol.

How is MKX like? Does the variations per character actually make a difference?

Any chance of Skullgirls ( http://imgur.com/MV7j9yf ) or Tekken 7?

MKX is shaping up to be an amazing game. Still way too early to hash out everything but so far so good. And variations can make a major difference in some characters.

Skullgirls isn't a game much played here in Sydney from what I know. You can put the word out for the next YSB and if there is enough interest, you can run a set up or two pending numbers.

As for Tekken 7, well it's only out on arcade and in only 2 countries at the moment (Japan and Korea) so it'll be a while before it makes its way to Australian arcades, little own console haha.
